Applying Window Tint to Help with Privacy and Harsh Light

A couple of weeks ago, I shared on Instagram this window privacy film I found on Amazon. I was originally hoping it would allow light to flow in and not be visible to see inside at night. After applying it at night, I found that with lights on inside, you can certainly see inside at night. With lights off inside, it’s pretty impossible to see inside at night.

While this wasn’t the solution I was hoping for, I’m still extremely pleased with this product! We’ve applied it to all the windows in our front living room. This room gets a lot of direct sun in the afternoon and sees the sunset. During the winter it’s a very harsh light and we would typically pull the bamboo shades closed so that we weren’t blinded while hanging out in here. And during the summer…don’t even get me started. You want to talk about hot? Oh my gosh that sun beating down all afternoon in here made it stifling. So while I loved the texture the bamboo shades added, I really wanted to still enjoy our beautiful large windows with natural light, without having to open and close them throughout the day.

This window film has made our living room so much more enjoyable! I know it’s lazy, but it’s so nice to come in here in the morning and not have to open 8 individual bamboo shades. There’s no cords getting tangled. It’s an overall cleaner aesthetic.

It’s hard to show in photos a before an after, because unless you know this window film is there, you wouldn’t know it’s applied. I’ll share a little how to on my instagram stories so you can see how easy it is to apply! All you need are scissors, a credit card for smoothings, an exacto knife, and water.

We’ve also added this to some windows downstairs and I’d like to purchase more for the windows in our bedroom and guest room. Those rooms are on the corner of house that gets direct light and I think this film may really help our power bills in the summer. I would normally close those curtains in the summer because it would get so hot and then it would be dark in those rooms. Gimme all the natural light!

I’d love to know if you apply this window film and what you think of the product. I’m eager to see how it holds up over time and if it will help with keeping these rooms cool in the summer.
