A Downton Abbey Inspired Tea for Two

Y’all know I love vintage and antique china and silver. And with the premiere of the Downton Abbey movie this weekend, I wanted to create a tea party inspired by the series.

My mom and I pulled this together with items from her home and some recently inherited items from family members. We set up in my grandparent’s backyard. I love using old items. It adds something special to know where they came from and who they belonged to.

Look at those beautiful teacups and saucers! They were my great Aunt Martha’s and are handpainted. The scalloped, gilded edges add such a sweetness to the pretty purple flowers. I love how the pattern is on the outside and the inside. The pattern is Spring Violets by Rosetti. The scalloped linen napkins repeat the daintiness and add a feminine touch.

The silver tea pot is part of a larger silver service and it was my great grandparents. It has their monograms on it!

We added a silver bell….”I’d like more tea please!”

Check out the silver trophy! It’s engraved with winners from a game at an old camp. Ohhh I’m going to forget the exact relation, but I believe it was my great, great, great Aunt Scilla owned a camp and the trophy came from there. It makes a beautiful vase for the orchid. I thought it was a nod to the cricket games at Downton…anyone remember those episodes?

The crystal sherbet is part of my mom’s crystal pattern. The tray is one of my grandmothers. Since the silver teapot and teacups and saucers are very floral and intricate, the clean lines of the trophy and tray offer a balance to the scene.

The wicker chairs are vintage and the green bamboo table is vintage as well, I believe. I love how the purple orchid adds a bit of color to the scene and pulls the violet colors from the china.

So who’s going to see the Downton Abbey movie tonight? You should definitely have your gal pals over for a tea party before! You could easily make it a tea party happy hour 🙂 I may go see it on Saturday and have the ladies over for a brunch tea party and we can catch the matinee!
