Like most people do this time of year, I’m trying to get some spaces organized in my home. I’m focusing on the spots that get used on a daily basis. My vanity is a main spot that really needed some tidying and organization.
These are my before photos. I am so embarrassed I let something get so untidy!
Drawers are the Solution
I knew I needed the area cleaned up, but I beyond cleaning and organizing, I wanted to know how I can make it function better for me. I sit in a chair each morning between these cabinets and get dressed for the day. I will open these cabinets while sitting, and I have to bend way down to actually see what’s in there. That’s when I realized a drawer that I can slide open and look into would be way more efficient.
It also allowed me to use the height of the cabinet to my full advantage. Previously, I only had one level and things were stacked on top of each other. Now, I have a drawer for certain categories. It’s so easy to find stuff and look into the contents of each drawer! These also come in a variety of sizes so you can find one to fit your cabinets! Tip: I found some sticky dots while I was cleaning out my closet, ha! You may want to use sticky dots them on the bottom of the drawers to keep them from sliding back or forward when you use them.
Bins with Handles
In the other cabinet, I keep my hot rollers, head bands, brushes, and other hair tools. On this side, I used two bins with handles. These bins are from the dollar tree and I have had them for years. In all honesty, I can’t say that I absolutely love them. After using them in many locations for many items, they are very curved with angular sides; that gives a lot of lost usable space. Holding my headbands and brushes is probably the best use for these. However, if you’re trying to stack smaller boxes or other items with right angles in there, it just doesn’t work well. Currently, it’s tidy enough!
I do like a vertical handled bin. I do have these vertical handled bins in my medicine cabinet for categories and I love them. They are more squared off but still have the angled sides. When I find a bin that is straight with perfect right angles and a vertical handle, I will post about it!
Makeup Drawers
In the top drawers, I keep my makeup and hair accessories. The makeup drawer really needed to be cleaned out. I had some previous organizers in there, but again, they just weren’t the right size. So I switched them out for these organizers that I also have in my desk. I can finally get my eye shadow palette to fit in this drawer!
Mini Vacuum
On a related note…as I have been cleaning these spaces, the mini vacuum has been so helpful! I vacuum or drawers, the shelves in our closet, etc. It’s so nice to get in the little crevices without pulling out the huge vacuum.
