Colorful Chinoiserie Tablescape

Ohhh, ya’ll….I just don’t know where to start! I loved creating this tablescape because it combines all of my favorite things: chinoiserie, blue and white, my other favorite colors of pink, turquoise, and orange, brass, bamboo, and more!

I’ve been itching to put this table together ever since I bought these beautiful plates a few weeks ago from a dear friend who has a booth full of vintage china at a local store here in Greenville, SC. You should follow both of them! Hip at Grove and Cottage Grove Vintage Market. Full disclosure–I actually work at this store and I do because its the happiest place ever. I hope you’ll come see us! So many fun finds and a happy place to be!

Let’s admire everything about this plate for a minute. What first caught my attention was the turquoise. It’s one of the main colors in my home and how it creates the Indian Tree motif using pink, green and blue is just stunning. I love the hints of orange, the pink flowers, the border. All the chinoiserie heart eyes.

To bring out all those elements, I knew I needed to frame this like a piece of art. Layers are the key! I knew I wanted to use the pink chargers. They are by a brand that is no longer in business (Love Plates), and I’m so sad because I absolutely adore the bright colors they produced. I only own these four pink chargers but I use them a lot! When I noticed the blue and white elements in the florals of the plate, I tested out this blue and white plate immediately beneath it. While it’s not much bigger, it adds a nice deep, dark cobalt to make the plate stand out even more against the pink. For placemats, I used monstera leaf mats from World Market. I don’t think they sell them anymore because I couldn’t find them online, but I did find some at Pier 1! They look the exact same!

The bamboo flatware is a favorite of mine. I love how it’s chinoiserie, but still casual. I only have a set of four place settings, but I’m hoping I can grow it more. I originally got mine on Zulily, the flash sale site, but this set here looks extremely close and currently on sale! That might even be cheaper than what I paid!

The napkin ring is beautiful! I love the mother of pearl ring and the dainty petals with a pearl in the center. I got them at an auction my dad did and what makes them even more special is that the auction was for longtime family friends. It’s neat to have a piece of your friend’s family heirlooms.

The napkins are custom. I took a cue from Shayla Copas here. In her book, Four Seasons of Entertaining, she used a lot of beautiful fabrics to create tablecoths and napkins. She used wonderful fabrics from Thibaut and Schumacher! All the credit for these items above goes to my mom and grandmother. My mom found the fabric and my grandmother sewed the ends to make the tablecloth and napkins. I’m so happy with how they turned out and love using them!

You may recognize the pink glassware from my stories this past week! It belonged to my great-grandmother and I’m so happy to have it. It has a slight iridescent sheen to it. Regency Revival on instagram helped me identify them. They are Tiffin-Franciscan glasses. You can find them online at Replacements. They likely used to be a deeper cranberry but after years of use, they are a lighter pink and I’m okay with that! I’ll continue to use them!

The elephants are another vintage find. I’ve had them for years and use them as book ends in my den. I have a thing for elephants; I think they are so cute!

To complete the centerpiece, I added bright candles atop brass candlesticks and cut glass candlesticks. The brass candlesticks were my moms. She never threw anything away and I’m glad. It’s all back in style again! The cut glass candlesticks came from my mother in law. The solid pink tapers are by Northern Lights and you can buy them from Anthropologie! The striped candles are Ana Candles and are available in home decor stores. I got mine locally at 4Rooms.

To complete the aesthetic, I brought out my rattan chairs. These are another vintage find that I painted and reupholstered. I also added pillows! There’s no such thing as too many pillows! The floral pair is an outdoor set that came from TJ Maxx last year. The blue and white are a Tuesday Morning find. I love how they are an ikat, adding flair to blue and white, and the touch of turquoise makes them work in any room in my home.

Of course, when it got dark, I just had to light the candles. It’s hard to photograph candlelight, but just try to envision having a meal with your best friends in the warm glow. It’s such a fun table that I just wanted to have my besties over, pour a glass of rose, and laugh until it hurts.

This also just solidified my love for my new outdoor string lights. They help cast a warm glow that is enough to be well lit to enjoy the scenery, but dim enough to add ambiance.

I know so many of my items are vintage finds, inherited pieces, and lucky finds. I’m always a supporter of shopping local and shopping vintage–it’s such a fun hunt! I tried my best to find similar items online so you can create this look at home!
