Setting the table is one of my favorite things; you can see some of my favorite tablescapes here. Setting a table for a holiday is even more special! I love pulling out my new and vintage accessories and creating something with a theme reflecting my own personal style. Honestly, I don’t ever get too “theme-y” with an decor, but try to use items in a theme’s color scheme to carry the sentiment.
Independence Day is usually all about big gatherings, cookouts, and firework shows with a crowd. I think covid has changed that for all of us. Since there likely won’t be any big party, why not set a fun table in red, white, and blue for your family? It is America’s birthday after all!
Layers are the key to a beautiful table! Thick, striped placemats add a soft contrast to wicker chargers. I even used my everyday white Skyros Legado dinner plate as an additional charger to my Blue Willow plates.
Using family heirlooms is extra meaningful. This vintage red glassware and napkins were my great Aunt Martha’s. Her favorite colors were red and blue so it was very fitting I incorporated her glassware into the table setting. I love adding pillows to big outdoor chairs; it makes lingering over dinner conversation more conducive!
Can’t you just see a decadent cherries jubilee in the sherbet glass? I just might have to try it this weekend!
I also incorporated my monogram mint julep cups. These were in my husband’s family and I think it’s the prettiest monogram. And the L is for Louise so of course I like using it! Adding a touch of silver to the table adds a nice metallic element and there’s something neat about drinking from a cup that was so “of the times” back when America was started. It also keeps your drink icy, so there’s that, too!
How will you be celebrating this year? I highly encourage you to set a table in honor of America! I think a 244 year old country is worthy 😉
