I discovered Little Green Fern Company last year and have so enjoyed getting to know the owner, Sarah Camp. She is my go to and resource for all my plants — indoors and out! I recently purchased a few ferns for my porch and asked if she would like to share more about how to take care of them. Be sure you’re following on instagram to see all her reels and helpful tips. And we she gets in a new shipment of cute plants!
Porch Lanterns // Similar Rattan Earrings // Similar Rattan Slides // Paint Color is SW Intellectual Grey // These planters are a few seasons old. I would recommend this or this for a similarly tidy and traditional look. Here is a round planter and one with trellis pattern.
How to Care for Boston Ferns
Boston Ferns are probably the most iconic ferns and are often seen as hanging baskets on front porches. They prefer partial to full shade and you should water once a week. Water more frequently as the temperatures rise in the summer!
How to Care for Kimberly Queens
I have Kimberly Queen ferns on my front porch because they are the most tolerant for a lot of sun. They prefer indirect light but can tolerate more if watered frequently. I usually water mine everyday in the summer and will also let them sit in a bucket of water for an hour or so once a week. I love how they add great height to my planters but are also very full and lush.
How to Care for Macho Ferns
I love the bigger fronds of the macho ferns! I purchased two of these for my back deck. They do well with early sunlight in the morning and can tolerate a late afternoon sun, too. AKA don’t let them scorch in the afternoon heat, but if they get sunlight around 7pm in August, they will be fine.
How to Care for Asparagus Ferns
Did you know they are called this because the new growth looks like teeny tiny asparagus? These are drought tolerant but prefer damp soil and dappled shade.
How to Care for Foxtail Ferns
I love these little busy tails! The elegant stems are so fun for added height in a planter. They prefer light shade and can manage morning sun.
Be sure you’re following Little Green Fern Company for more knowledge about plant care and when she has new shipments of plants! I can’t wait to get more as spring and summer arrive!
