You may recalled my vintage adventures have led me to find a vintage navy blue upholstery sofa and a pair of orange velvet club chairs. These are in our basement den and I’ve been wanting to update the space a bit, but didn’t want to full redo or spend a lot of money. Thank goodness for bargains on vintage upholstery at estate sales to furnish the space! My solution has been to put new pillows on vintage upholstery!

Sofa Pillows
I was so pleased to find a navy sofa. Y’all know it’s my favorite neutral! I love how it makes my bright colors really pop. I’ve admired this chinoiserie asian print from Thibaut for quite a while and I knew it was the perfect way to bring out the orange. This will likely be where we watch football games in the fall, so I’ve got to pay homage to my alma mater!
The pillows in the background are also a Thibaut fabric and I moved them from our den upstairs. I do have touches of orange in spaces upstairs, but it’s not that much. When you have a color palette throughout your home, it’s so easy to move things around and breathe new life into items and entire spaces.
The Club Chair Pillows
Honestly, when I first saw this fabric on the bolt, I thought “oh that could be fun, but it’s not me.” Well, after I found the orange velvet club chairs, I knew I wanted a tiger stripe sort of pillow in them. When I walked back by this bolt, it hit me! This was the perfect nod to my Clemson Tigers without being collegiate! If I’m gonna have a tiger on display in the room, make him a funky, chinoiserie tiger. I corded and backed it in vibrant fushia (pulls from the pillows across the room) to add my signature pink and orange touch. I love how they turned out! This is the best example of new pillows on vintage upholstery!
Don’t Think of Vintage Upholstery as Old
With it being very difficult to get upholstered pieces right now (whether that’s a brand new piece or an inherited piece that you want recovered….everything is backordered), now is the time to open your eyes to some fantastic vintage upholstery. Back in the day, people had a formal living room that they never sat in. Some of the furniture is in pristine condition; it’s basically brand new! Look beyond the vintage label and you’ll be able to open a world of opportunities to finishing your home.
