Self Tanner Mitt

Over the years, I have tried to find the perfect self tanner. Being so fair skinned, I have experienced that orange look, missing spots and having extremely noticeable uneven areas, and once I had an awful tan hand print going across my back and shoulder. The magic to an even application is all in the mitt!

The magic to getting an even self tan is in this mitt!

That’s right; this soft, almost velvet feeling, black mitt is the secret to having an even tan. In recent years, I have embraced my fair skin, but I still want a little color (look alive) on my legs. Here’s my process:

  • squirt two pumps of a foaming self tanner on the mitt
  • I begin just below the knee and rub down my shin and around my lower leg.
  • Then I work back towards the knee and be sure to the knee and lower thigh area. (I usually just go up to wear my gym shorts or hemline of a dress would be, only tanning the visible skin area.)
  • I finish by rubbing around my ankles and doing the top of my foot. (I find that this keeps the tan flowing to the foot, like I’ve actually laid out and gotten some sun. Otherwise, it’s just a line at the ankle and that’s not cute.)
  • repeat these steps on the other leg

I’ve used various foaming self tanners over the years. I’m currently using Jergens Deep Bronze. Don’t let the name fool you. I am super fair skinned and it’s not too deep. Just stick to two pumps per leg, and you’ll look alive and not ashy. In the summer, I may do three pumps per leg or apply it everyday if I need to look very tan.
