It seems we’re always on the hunt for the best white shirt. I’ve done plenty of research, placed some online orders, and now I’ve tested them all out! I’ve broken it down into three categories: the white button down, the tunic, and the ruffle details. I know you’ll find the best white shirt for you below!
Classic White Button Down
This is the Relaxed Perfect Shirt from Ann Taylor and it is pretty darn close to perfect. Classic in every way, its a traditional white button down. There’s a touch of stretch to the fabric to make it comfortable. The collar stands up well. This is the do it all white button down for you: tuck it in, leave it out, wear alone, wear under something. True to size.
This is the Perfect Shirt from Ann Taylor. The material is just like the previous shirt; the only difference in these shirts is this one has more tailoring. There’s darting at the bust and in the back for a more slim fit. Because of the fit, this shirt is ideal for wearing under blazers or sweaters. True to size.
This is the Betty Shirt from J. McLaughlin. It has a wonderful feel to it; their special material. It’s sort of has an athletic feel to it and it gives a beautiful drape to the fabric. The collar still stands up though! Because of the straight hem all the way around it, this is a good shirt to leave untucked while still maintaining a polished look. I went up a size.
This is the No Iron Stretch Shirt from Chicos. If you’re looking for a classic white button down with a bit of tunic style, this is it! It has a wonderful stretch to it, the collar stands up well, and the sleeves cuff easily for a polished finish. True to Size.
This is the Boyfriend Shirt from Talbots. I think it’s called that because of the longer length. This is a good option to wear with leggings because it will cover your rear. It still has nice darts at the best and good pleat at the black; the fit is slightly relaxed.
Tunic White Shirts
This is the No Iron Stretch Faux Pearl Tunic from Chicos. Beyond the fantastic material, the collar is superb. It’s not one that is meant to be folded over, so it’s the perfect height to stand up all day long. I love the pearl button on the placket and at the cuffs! The straight hem in the front is nice and the back hem is slightly longer with a little curve to cover your rear. True to Size. This seems to be currently sold out in white, but the blue is beautiful!
This the by Anthropologie Henley Shirt from Anthro. It has an oversized and very casual feel to it. I like the collar standing up to accentuate the v-neck. The back is definitely longer and it’s split at the sides. True to size; you may be able to size down.
This is the Poplin Ruffle Sleeve Popover from Chicos. I love that this shirt is classic and clean with all the special details on the ruffles from the elbow down. This is that perfect combination of a tunic with feminine details. True to size.
Ruffle Accents
This is the Durham Ruffle Top from J. McLauglin. It’s such an easy material and gives a beautiful drape without any extra darting or seams. This is perfect for leaving untucked when you still want the clean look. The ruffle collar is the perfect height; not too tall but tall enough to stand up. I went up a size. Bonus–comes in several patterns, too!
This is the Poplin Ruffle Button Top from Ann Taylor. If you need a classic white button down with a little frill, this is it! I love the ruffles along the sleeves (not tight or fitted at all) and the collar; the ruffles are repeated with gathering across the back of the shoulders. This is an easy one to tuck in, front tuck, wear out, whatever you want–perfect length for all the styles!
