You know when you stay in a fancy hotel and you come back from dinner and turn down service has been performed? The sheets are pulled back, the bedroom slippers are by the bed and you can slip in to a good night’s sleep. I started doing my own turn down service at 5pm when I finish my work for the day. When I go ahead and get the bedroom ready for sleeping, it so nice to come in after dinner is done, the kitchen is clean, and I don’t have to remove pillows, find my slippers, etc. I can change clothes and climb into bed for the evening.

Remove the Pretty Pillows
When I walk in the bedroom after cleaning the kitchen and tidying up, I don’t like staring at the chore of removing pillows for bed so I go ahead and do it before those other tasks. This is the start of my turn down service.

Turn on the Lights and Close the Blinds
Once the pillows are removed, I turn on our sconces to the brightest setting. We start with the brightest and dim as we lay in bed reading or watching TV.

I also go ahead and close our blinds for the evening. After dinner, we’re walking into a dark, but softly lit room to unwind.
Pajamas and Slippers by the Bed
I love laying out my pajamas and slippers by the bed. Seeing those soft clothes waiting on me gets me excited to get cozy when I get out of the shower.

I hope this inspires you to begin a turn down service. The whole premise is to take a few tasks off your lists before the evening actually begins. I know we’ve all had one of those days where actually taking the pillows off the bed seems daunting at 9pm. Do it earlier in the evening! When you actually arrive at your bedroom to sleep, that’s all you need to do–slip into jammies and sleep!
