While sharing my recent adventures on our buying trip through Tennessee, a follower asked me to share what I wore and packed for the trip. I am not a light packer. If I think I MIGHT, MAYBE, SLIGHT CHANCE need something, I pack it. With that said, I did think through every outing and scenario and designed comfortable but casual outfits for each day.
(PS – this Scout Pleasure Chest cooler is the best size for keeping my coffee creamer and a few other cool essentials fresh for the road trip)
Comfort is Key
Let’s start from the bottom and work our way to the top. Comfort is crucial when you’re spending all day walking around antique malls and vintage stores. A great pair of sneakers is a lifesaver! I wore my gold Lilly Pulitzer sneakers all day, every day on this trip. Because they are metallic, they are a great seasonless shoe that works well anytime of year; they are fabulous with light or dark jeans.
As my career has morphed into a vintage hunter, I’ve really invested in sneakers. Other options I enjoy wearing are my Keds Triple Kick. I purchased the Keds last summer and really enjoy the platform for a little extra height and even better, extra cushion!
Let’s work our way up by discussing comfortable pants. Leggings may be an obvious option, but I did not want to be too casual for this trip. I wanted my hubby and I to dine at places other than fast food; we enjoy exploring local cuisine so I wanted to be dressed up enough to dine at a casual sit down restaurant. I stuck with a different pair of comfy jeans each day. These straight leg mom jeans are super comfortable, but you can see they definitely got very wrinkled after sitting in the car for 3.5 hours.
I also really enjoy these dark wash jeggings. I’ve had them a few years and it’s the closest thing to a legging that doesn’t look like a legging.
Cute Tops
I prefer a breathable, knit top that I can easily layer. When we left on Thursday, the weather was 75 and sunny but it changed along the way and one day it was 65 and rainy. For our first travel day, I wore my Dolly tshirt. It’s a great way for me to be comfortable and layer my favorite pink popover if I got chilly. Regardless of weather, my hubs and I have completely different levels of comfortable temperature in the car so I prefer to have layers.
Ya’ll loved the happy sweater I wore on the second day and can you believe I found that at WalMart last year? They don’t have it in stock anymore, but this adorable feeling good sweater is very similar!
Layering Jackets
Jackets and coats are one of my favorite ways to add a finishing touch to an outfit. Light jackets are so perfect for our mild winters and this transitional time of year. I’ve collected them over the years, but my favorite are stylish windbreaker style material jackets. Don’t think of a windsuit when I say windbreaker, just think of the material. I’ve seriously got several jackets in this type of material because it’s the perfect lightweight layer and also handy when it may rain.
This rainslicker is the perfect weight and oh so stylish! The cinched waist is flattering, the pockets are handy, and the hood is removable. It comes in several colors! I love the blue and pink, but I would also recommend navy. You know, it’s my favorite neutral because it looks bright in spring next to bright colors but also provides a darker balance in winter when you want a deeper hue.
Evening Outfits
As I said, my hubs and I wanted to enjoy local cuisine and dine out. I wasn’t sure how the weather would be changing while we were away, so I packed a lightweight dress that would pair well with one of my jackets. Y’all loved this Elizabeth Wilson Designs chambray number. I’m so excited to see what other prints she designs the dress in for spring! The other outfit was a blouse and jeans that I knew I could dress up with a pair of wedges (worn with both outfits) or pair with sneakers if my feet were really tired!
I hope this serves as a resource for how to be cute and comfy on your next road trip!
Great suggestions! Thanks for posting.
