One of the easiest ways to create a festive table is to stick to a simple color palette. Red, white, and blue feels patriotic without being overly themed, which means you can use the same pieces long after the Fourth of July is over–especially since it’s America’s 250th birthday. Celebrate all year long!

When I’m setting a table, I try to mix color, texture, and natural materials. The result feels collected rather than matchy-matchy, and it keeps the table from looking flat.
The Plates That Pull Everything Together
When I saw these red and white Faenza dinner plates, I knew they would be the foundation for this entire table. The pattern has a classic, collected feel that looks like something you might discover at a favorite antique shop, but they’re actually made of durable melamine. That means I get the look of beautiful ceramic dinnerware without worrying about chips, breaks, or using them only on special occasions. The red border adds the perfect patriotic touch for summer entertaining, but honestly, I’d use these all year long since red is appropriate for Valentine’s Day, patriotic holidays, and I’m super excited to use them at Christmas! They’re substantial and exactly the kind of pieces that make a table feel special without being high maintenance.

Add Texture with Bamboo
Every tablescape needs a touch of texture, and natural materials are one of my favorite ways to achieve it. These bamboo flatware pieces instantly warm up the table and keep it from feeling too formal. I especially love them paired with classic blue placemats and red-rimmed dinnerware. The combination feels polished but approachable—exactly the kind of table I want guests to feel comfortable gathering around. Bamboo is one of those details people notice without being able to immediately put their finger on why the table feels special.

For an additional touch of bamboo, but in a different pattern, consider the melamine plates, too! I have a set in white and now a set with the blue bamboo. They are truly versatile and make excellent salad plates as well as dessert plates!

The “Glassware” That Isn’t Glass
If you’ve been here for any length of time, you’ve probably seen me share these acrylic goblets before, and I’ll keep sharing them because they are that good. The first time they arrived, I genuinely thought Beatriz Ball had accidentally sent me real glassware. The clarity and weight are impressive, but the best part is they’re acrylic.

As a mom, I appreciate beautiful things that don’t require me to hold my breath every time a child reaches across the table. We use these as everyday water glasses, for outdoor dinners, and for entertaining. They look elegant enough for guests but practical enough for real life. That’s a combination I can always get behind.
Keep the Centerpiece Simple
One of the biggest entertaining mistakes I see is overcomplicating the centerpiece. Guests need to be able to see each other across the table, and no one wants to talk around a towering arrangement. For this table, I kept things simple with classic white vases filled with blue hydrangeas and pops of red flowers. The arrangement reinforces the red, white, and blue color palette without feeling overly themed, and it adds just the right amount of softness to balance all of the structured table elements. Sometimes the most beautiful centerpieces are the ones that look effortless, and it’s certainly effortless with the Vento Vase. The scalloped rim supports the florals–making it super easy to put together. The little bud vases add florals to the full length of the table.
Why I Love Red, White, and Blue
A patriotic color palette can sometimes feel a little predictable, but mixing different materials keeps it fresh.
The woven blue placemats provide texture. The bamboo flatware adds warmth. The acrylic stemware introduces shine and elegance. Layered together, the table feels collected and intentional without being complicated.
And that’s really my favorite kind of entertaining, because at the end of the day, your guests aren’t coming over to inspect your tablescape. They’re coming to spend time with you.
A beautiful table simply helps set the stage.
