Bamboo Blinds with Tape

I’m so excited to share the final reveal of my bamboo blinds with tape! This was an excellent window treatment for our bathroom and so easy to do!

The Bamboo Blinds

When we were in the finishing details of our bedroom and bathroom update, I knew I wanted bamboo blinds in here. We have them in our bedroom and I am still so enthralled with them. They are blackout lined and cordless, giving them a very seamless look. They are easy to install and they are affordable considering you have all those extras. Get them at www.justblinds.com. I have the Woven Wood Shades in Antigua Natural with blackout lining and cordless lift. My goal is to have these in all the bedrooms of our home because of their superior functionality and style.

The Tape

I ordered the tape from Carolina Fabric. They are my favorite fabric store and the most helpful staff. If you like this tape, just give them a call and I’m sure they will order and ship it to you!

To adhere the tape:

  • mount the blinds. Because these are cordless, they wouldn’t stay open when laying flat so I needed to mount them for them to stay open so I could apply the tape.
  • measure for tape and cut appropriately. Decorator Tip — this tape has a repeat and I wanted each side to be the same pattern. Pay close to attention to starting your tape at the same spot of the pattern.
  • glue the tape. I used this fabric glue. Apply it just like you would hot glue. Update: After much use (we open and close these many times a day), the tape does come undone on certain folds. I used hot glue to re-adhere it. Over time, there are a few spots that have become loose, but the tape is still adhered in main points and still looks great!
  • to keep the tape in place, I used bobby pins. I added glue and then would slide the bobby pin over the fabric and under the bamboo blind. These were thin enough to not cause damage to the shade but keep it place.
  • At the end of the blind, wrap it around the edge and use clothes pin to hold in place.
  • Let dry for several hours before raising and lowering.

Additional Bathroom Sources

Just because you can’t remodel your bathroom doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful bathroom! This is our master bathroom and while I want to remodel one day for more space, I am so in love with the wallpaper, mirror, new light and window treatment. It’s really an easy formula for any older bathroom: add wallpaper, raise the light as high as possible, add a mirror with a beautiful frame, add texture with bamboo blinds and tape. Honestly, I love this so much that if I have this bathroom the rest of my life, I will be so happy!

  • The wallpaper is Seabrook Wallcoverings from Decorator’s Best. Decorator tip — the layout of this pattern gives a vertical, tile like feel playing up the height and drawing the eye up which is very important in this tiny bathroom.
  • The bamboo mirror is an estate sale find. Decorator Tip–go higher than standard builder grade mirrors. This give the illusion of tall ceilings and hanging the light higher adds to the effect. And no one knows there’s a whole from where the electrical used to be because the mirror covers it up, ha!
  • The bamboo blinds are Just Blinds. Decorator Tip— bathrooms can feel stark and cold so adding wood texture adds warmth.
  • The tape is Carolina Fabric. Decorator tip–most tapes have greek key or right angles, but I wanted something fluid and flowy against the geometric and this does just the trick!
  • The new light fixture is linked here. The light also comes in gold as well. Decorator tip–notice this light has 4 lights. Most small bathrooms have light fixtures with only 3 lights. I went with a wider light to give the illusion of more space. Decorator tip–the curves on this light add softness and work well with the straight angles on the wallpaper.
  • The blue ceiling is Sherwin Williams Porch Ceiling cut at 50%. Decorator tip–don’t forget the 5th wall. Paint the ceiling! Just another tip to give the illusion of a grand room when it’s just 8 foot ceilings.
  • All that’s missing is a little monogram on that hand towel! Next project!
