Design Dilemma Series: Medallion Bedroom

Share or Save!

Let’s get this Design Dilemma Series started. A follower emailed me the following:

Hi Anna Louise,

I am in desperate need of a design board for my primary bedroom. We had a tree limb drop into the ceiling last month and decided to bite the bullet and completely redo the bedroom. While I’m still waiting on the insurance, I’m trying to figure out my new “style”. The bedroom was last decorated 30 years ago when we first moved in to our home! The only thing I know for sure is I want your bamboo blinds! That post is when I first started following you on Instagram. I saw a bedspread/ quilt I love at a Air B&B I stayed at but can’t find it anywhere!

Can you help me ?

Here’s a photo of the bedspread that she loves:

The Design Board

I could not find the bedspread online, but I took a lot of inspiration from her photo. Knowing that she loves the medallion print, I started there.

The Bedding

Our follower’s inspiration bed quilt is a neutral medallion; however, I will always encourage color and most definitely encourage blue in a bedroom. It’s peaceful and serene. The duvet and shams provide the medallion motif while the colors of light blue and navy provide a sophisticated palette with pops of coral.

A note on bedding…If you’re using a patterned duvet and shams, I much prefer to see a break in the pattern across the bed. Please fold the duvet at the bottom and always use a white or ecru coverlet. In the pictures above, I’ve linked my very affordable Amazon coverlet that is now on our guest bed as well as a higher end coverlet that’s in the design board.

I’m not sure of our follower’s bed situation, and that’s why I included a neutral, tufted headboard. It will go with any bedding and decor decisions.

The Windows

She mentioned she wants the bamboo blinds I also have in my bedroom. They are from justblinds.com (yes, just is part of the web address); I have the woven wood shades in the finish Antigua Natural with blackout lining and the cordless lift option. You may find my measuring guide helpful, too!

I’ve been loving these gold french return rods from Amazon. I have it in my office, and I just purchased the double rod for my living room and I’m very eager to install it! The gold adds warmth to a space. You may also be interested in checking out my other Amazon rods. Don’t forget the coordinating rings!

A note on installing drapes…even if the drapes come ready for rod pocket or tab back, please hang them on rings with drapery hooks. Here’s my post on how to do that.

The blue velvet drapes will add cozy luxuriousness to the windows. I love the texture of velvet against the bamboo blinds!

The Side Tables and Lamps

These chests are a phenomenal prices for the detail; texture and nailhead trim! 30″ is the ideal beside table height and these are it with excellent storage in the drawers! Top them with my favorite pair of lamps and you’re good to go! These lamps look extremely high end–marbled design with a beautiful gold base. The tapered shade with seams is a designer touch and they hold two bulbs each; ideal for reading or dim for adjusting to daytime or nighttime.
