Dorm Decor

Share or Save!

I’ve had a request to put together some dorm decor ideas. I’ve compiled a few design boards that should give some great ideas for decorating your dorm room. Whether you’re looking for a few finishing touches or a complete scheme, I’ve got all the links below for you. Even if you’re not headed to school, many of these items will work great in your home, too!

Bold and Beautiful

gold french return rod // I almost used these exact ones in my bedroom! They have my approval. With a french return rod, the rod pocket or tab top drapes go all the way around so it helps block out light.

teal velvet drapes // When my clients want velvet drapes, this is the brand I recommend! I used to have these in my bedroom. They are blackout and so well made! They come in many colors too!

abstract art // When decorating a small room (and one that may be cinder blocks), you need big art. I love the colors in this piece and it’s extremely affordable! Consider getting two to make it a pair to hang over the long side of the bed pushed against the wall.

pink and orange pillow // Go bold with color here to make the bed a strong focal point.

tiger pillow // I have these in my basement den! They are so fun and many colors to play off of!

pink scalloped embroidery sheets // a little pop of pink peeking it out is always a good idea.

multi color pom pom quilt // An all white quilt is always smart, but the texture and colors of these pom poms add serious fun and coordinate well with the other colors.

pink lamps // I remember hating the florescent light in the dorms. Invest in lamps (one for you and one for your roommate) and you’ll have to take to your first apartment, too.

pink director’s chair // It’s nice to have somewhere other than the bed to sit and these fold up so well when you want more space. Excellent price and comes in lots of colors!

teal garden stool // Y’all know me and a garden stool. Every room needs one and this can act as a stool to get in your lofted bed.

teal gold table // It seems the only surfaces in dorms are desks. You might want something like this when sitting down to set a water or coffee nearby.

pink rug // I remember not many people taking a rug to college but I did and it helped so much in making the space feel homey; especially if it’s cold tile floors!

teal and gold tray // corral vanity or desk items in style!

Blue and Traditional

gold french return rod // Same as above and same reasoning; it’s just smart!

blue patterned drapes // These are by the same brand as the velvet ones above and are excellent for any room. I’ve recommended for many clients and they look fantastic in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms. So even if you’re trying to furnish a first apartment, these will go anywhere. They also come in a few other colors and blue ikat!

abstract art // Lauren Hixon created this gorgeous one of a kind! I used this as the inspiration for the entire board.

navy lamps // Navy is the best neutral and this will be a pair you’ll have for a long time–college and beyond.

classic shams // crisp white with a navy border. add a monogram for a personal touch.

blue pillows // add designer pillows for a chic element. These will look great on the sofa in the first apartment next year!

blue stripe sheets // the fuzzy pom poms add texture and a playful element to keep it youthful.

white quilt // you can’t go wrong. consider getting a queen size to drape over the lofted bed and hide all the storage underneath. Also, white is bleachable. If you get the queen, then it’s ready for that bigger bed in the first apartment the next year.

navy folding chair // you need somewhere other than the bed to sit and this is cozy and cute. its on sale!

happiness garden stool // a touch of sophistication and chinoiserie in the dorm.

white chargeable lamp // handy for when you’re studying but your roommate is in bed; a soft glow to see without being too bright.

blue traditional rug // blue and white is always right and this will work in a number of dorm rooms!

gold and acrylic desk accessories // looking studious is half the battle, right? chic for college and I think I’m gonna get some too!

navy trash can // I liked how this was narrow to easily fit under the desk without taking up too much room.

navy hangers // these come in a ton of colors and an excellent price. If you have switched to these, you’re seriously missing out on space in your closet! A must have for those tiny dorm closets.

Boys Dorm

If you’re a boy mom, dorm decor is much less expensive! And there’s some unbelievable deals here!

blackout drapes // Solid grey to keep it simple but still provide blackout.

black french return rod // Again, if you’re not using rings, a french return rod will take wrap the fabric around to the wall and provide better blackout. This one is only $26!

American Flag // easy art for boys!

grey shams // Keeping it clean and simple for them. only $20.

navy and white window pane comforter // It’s only $22! Adds a little pattern without being busy. We can’t have all solids.

grey stripe sheet set // they’re $12. A pattern lets them know whose it is in the pile on the floor.

grey folding chair // They need somewhere other than the bed to sit.

grey storage cube // An ottoman, place to sit, stool to get in bed, and storage for $20!

wood lamp // $9 for manly texture and light.
