Kitchen Rugs

I adore the look of a beautiful rug in the kitchen. It adds such warmth to a space that usually doesn’t have much texture or textiles. They can also be functional, too! I wanted to add kitchen rugs to help with all the dirt and dust we track in to our home. This is the entrance we use most often–straight from the garage–so I wanted something to help keep our floors tidy.

Small and Thin Rugs

I love seeing kitchens that have a pretty runner on the floor. They are usually between an island and cooking area. My kitchen has no such island. I laid out a few larger rugs in my kitchen to see how it would look, but it just didn’t feel quite right. If I could find the perfect size, it could work. But that’s like finding a needle in a haystack, ha!

Here’s my kitchen in all it’s “just after coffee clean up” glory! 😉

So I thought about where we really needed a rug. I wanted a rug by the door when we walk in to help us not track in so much dirt and by the sink, to add a little warmth to actually kitchen area. We also walk in and wash our hands so this is another spot to help collect the dirt from our shoes.

I also needed the rugs to be thin so that I can open the door over them. These have worked out so well!

Rug Grippers

This was also an opportunity for me to test out the rug grippers on the small rugs. They really work! I used them on larger rugs but I was a little concerned that the small rugs may still slide around. They don’t slide AT ALL!

Place the rug gripper on the bottom in each corner. Attach the sticky side to the rug. If you try to move the rug, the gripper may stick to the floor, but it will still peel off nicely.

Long Term

I would love to have beautiful small oushak rugs in my kitchen; add that collected look. However, I didn’t want to spend money on something I needed to test out first. This was an affordable option for me to see if this really helps with the dirt and easy to clean around.

A few more styles:

I recommend this rug to clients all the time because it comes in a few different colors. It’s perfect for those rooms you don’t want to spend a ton on, but need something (like a laundry room). I’ve seen the really big sizes in dining rooms and dens too! Here’s a few more colors and sizes that you may like:
