The higher the hair the closer to God. And y’all, we really need to be close to Jesus these days. Big hair is just one way to do that. Kidding! But I do love the volume I get from velcro rollers!

I’ve been using velcro rollers for years! Sometimes I forget I have them back there (like the hot rollers), but I keep coming back to them because they are so easy and work so well to achieve that smooth volume.

For one, they are an inexpensive way to style your hair. Secondly, they add body to your hair. Additionally, they add a soft bend without being a strong curl.

Here’s how I style my hair with velcro rollers:

  1. Smooth hair with a blow dryer. When I wake up, my hair is a mess and it’s necessary for me to round brush style it with some heat to get out some kinks and smooth my part. This also adds some heat which allows the velcro rollers to easily add the body and volume while cooling set.
  2. Put in the velcro rollers. While my hair is still warm for the hair dryer, I put in the velcro rollers. First, I start at the top and back of my head. I usually do one giant one at my crown, near the back of my part. My part seems to go halfway down the back of my head, so I grab a small section from each side and put that on one roller. This gives that little boop and helps my part not look like I was starting pig tails, ha!
  3. Continue with big and medium rollers. I keep doing the top sides of my hair with big and medium rollers. I usually roll them slightly away from my face. TIP: when you get the roller to your root, lighlty press it into the root to help it stay in place.
  4. Add smaller rollers. I use the smaller rollers just above my ears and middle sides of my head. My hair is naturally curly and wavey and I love how my haircut works with the curls to flip out or flip under. These smaller rollers above my ears, get the hair going in the right direction. TIP: the less amount of hair on the roller, the more body and volume you’ll get.
  5. Let it set. While my hair is in rollers, I usually finish my makeup. Sometimes I even finish brushing my teeth, making the bed, doing some other chores. You just want to be sure your hair sets and is cooled off.
  6. Pull out the rollers. If you really want body to last a while, give your hair a light spray. I don’t typically use hairspray, but my stylist used this finishing spray the other day and I loved how it was sooo lightweight and didn’t weigh my hair down. That is critical when trying to achieve volume! Don’t weigh the hair down with more product. A good hairspray will hold while also lifting.
