Master Bedroom Progress

Several months ago, I shared a design board for updating our master bedroom. Many things have happened since then and this week, A LOT happened! So I wanted to share the master bedroom progress and what we still need to do.

The Progress

Several items had to take place before all the fun could start. We installed a new vent fan in our bathroom, repaired the ceiling, painted the ceiling.

This week is when the pretty stuff happened! I installed the light fixture over the weekend and the wallpaper happened this week!

I had been researching french return drapery rods. I found the perfect set at Carolina Fabric; I thought I was going to have to order them, but they recently received a shipment of everything I needed and had it all in stock. I immediately got to work hanging them and am so very pleased.

I wanted the french return rods to add a little bit of a modern touch among the many traditional elements of the room. Mission accomplished!

I also thought it would take a while to have a mirror made for my husband’s bedside chest. It only took a few hours! I found this hideous print in a gorgeous bamboo frame at an estate sale for $5. I popped the print out and put the mirror in. This mirror is so useful! My husband has a place to comb his hair in the morning (the bathroom is usually steamy or occupied) and it balances the window on the other side of the bed.

The To Do List

Now that the big things are done, it’s all about the accessories. This is the fun part to me, but it can also be the most time consuming or take the longest.

Here’s what needs to happen in the bedroom:

  • recover bedside stool and paint. I’d like to put a leopard pattern on the stool and paint it coral.
  • new lamps. I have ordered new lamps, but they were backordered. Who knows when that will arrive!
  • swing arm lights. I would love to install the small swing arm lights above the bed. It feels so luxurious at night time to have soft lighting here. This will happen way on down the road.
  • art above the bed. I’d love to see a modern abstract here, but I can also see a pretty print. I’m going to play around with a few pieces I own and get the size right. Gotta leave room for those swing arm lights!
  • accessories for the bedside tables. I would like a pretty tray and some other items to keep my bedside organized and pretty since I don’t have drawers. My husband would like a small valet for him to toss his ring and watch in at the end of the day.
  • rug. I go back and forth on a rug; my husband doesn’t want one, but I think it could really finish the space. Either way, not a priority at this time. Probably going to be one of those things that I stumble upon the right one.
  • bedding. I ordered shams and duvet and am awaiting their delivery. I’d like to add a beautiful bolster in a colorful pattern to go across the all white bedding.
  • TV. My husband wants a new TV; and he wants 55 inches! I think that’s unnecessary but he’s been so sweet to let me wallpaper and do all this fun stuff so I think he deserves a TV. He also wants it mounted and I want it mounted so I can accessorize the dresser, duh.
  • hang art. I have these prints from Urban Garden framed and ready to go. I want them to go above the TV, but I don’t want to hang them until a TV is mounted.

Here’s what needs to happen in the bathroom:

  • bath towels. We need new towels and bath mats so bad! Do you have a recommendation? I’ve heard good things about the Costco towels.
  • bamboo blinds. I’d love to get another bamboo blinds roman shade and add tape to it! This would add some great texture to the bathroom.
  • storage. I need to re-organize under the sink in here. It’s been years since I’ve cleaned this out and it’s totally necessary now. I think several of these clear drawers would be so helpful!
  • pretty accessories. I’d love to have a cute wastebin, pretty toothbrush holders, little trays, etc.
  • shower curtain. Oh the shower door saga. We got them much cleaner, but a custom made shower curtain would really jazz this space up. Obviously, the shower doors function so this isn’t necessary, but it would be a lot prettier.
  • storage or art above toilet. Depending on what storage and organization I can create under the sink, I may or may not need additional storage above the toilet. If we need storage, I’d love to find a wood chinoiserie shelf to add some more warmth to the space. Or I could add some art, but I don’t want to cover up the pretty wallpaper too much.
  • hooks! How could I forget this? Right now, we have one hook behind the door that I use and my hubby drapes his towel over the shower door so I won’t do this immediately since we’ve got to use the shower doors a little longer.
  • toilet paper holder. The location of this is quite the discussion for us, LOL! It’s such a small bathroom; who knew there were so many options?
  • oh yeah, hang the mirror, too 😉

That’s all for the master bedroom progress! I’ll keep updating as items happen!
