The Right Firmness
The ES Duo mattress has two parts to it. The bottom support base is flippable; there’s one side that is slightly firmer than the other. When we were mattress shopping and testing out the variations of the two piece mattress set, we preferred the firm side. So when it was installed on our bed, we had it on the firm side. After a few nights, my husband thought it was a little too firm so we flipped it to the softer side.

It’s so nice to have that option! However, after a few nights on the less firm side, we decided that the firm side really is for us. I think we were so used to our old mattress that was completely sunken in, that it just took our bodies a few nights to get used to it. We flipped it back to the firm side and have been sleeping soundly!
Plush Support
What I love most about the mattress is the plush support. We’ve got the bottom layer on the firm side; in my opinion, this keeps me aligned and straight. The top layer is the plush layer; you can see in these photos that it’s about 4″ thick! I truly love having that super soft layer on top of a layer that keeps me evenly supported from head to toe.

We also have a thin mattress topper and allergy mattress protector on top of our mattress. For my husband and I, this is like our personal pillow — just can’t sleep without it. I don’t think it’s necessary for a good night’s sleep; the ES Duo on it’s own its totally plush and superior in comfort! I just want to fully disclose all that we have on our bed.
Coffee in Bed
We go to bed very early and do lots of reading, scrolling the ipad, and TV watching in bed. We also drink our coffee in bed every weekend and because our mattress is so comfortable, we’ve been having it in bed on weekdays lately, too. It’s been so nice to have a mattress that actually supports you to sit up for this; we were previously sitting in a hole! We were already “early to bed” people, but now we’re getting in bed extremely early and a little late getting out of it.
