Simple Guest Room Styling

I am so ready to entertain and have company over soon! Our businesses and retail shops are slowly opening up in my community and I am hopeful that I will be able to have guests in my home soon. When the time is right, our guest room is ready to roll!

I’ve tried to do some simple, home decor updates during this quarantine time. Nothing huge, but easy, attainable, finishing touches that make the room feel complete. Honestly, there were several projects that I just had not finished and I finally had the opportunity to complete them.

Our guest room had been functional, but there were two main things that I had not done in this room: mount the headboard and hang these mirrors. The headboard is a vintage style from an estate sale. Most vintage headboards are so low. When you research older styles, beds were so low back then! I had all the hardware to do this, I just hadn’t taken the time to do it. It’s done and looks so much better!

To finish the bed, I added some shams that I got for a steal from Ballard Designs. I think they were $6! I love the coral. They no longer have them in this color, but they are available in a light blue and grey.

The Designers Guild toss pillows further accentuate the coral and the lavender embroidery ties in nicely with the purple tones in the vintage lamps.

I had these mirrors for a long time, too! They were originally a creamy, faded white and didn’t have mounting hardware on the back. I’m pretty sure they were originally attached to the back of a dresser. I wanted them on either side of this bed because this room doesn’t have windows. That sounds cavernous, and it is a little bit, but this room is just off the bathroom in the basement, and using this room as a guest bedroom feels like a suite for our guests. And, I had the opportunity to safely sleep in this room during some tornado scares, and I can say that being in a totally dark room that is completely quiet makes for a great night sleep! Back to the mirrors–I had a little bit of turquoise paint and went for it! It really brings out the blues in the headboard and the folded, geometric comforter at the end of the bed to tie it all together.

I added my favorite pair of vintage lamps. I’ve had these in my bedroom, my office, and now here. Rotating lights around until I find the perfect location in my home is what I do, ha! I think these are here to stay. The multi-color base plays so well with all the colors in the florals of the headboard.

To finish the sidetables, I added a little rub n buff to the hardware to match the brass accents. Simple dishes for jewelry and other trinkets make it easy for guests to corral their items at the end of the day. And a hospitable pineapple carries the sentiment of how happy I am to have them in my home!

I kept this room very simple. As I began decorating, I thought about what makes a guest feel comfortable and at home. This room shows my style, but it’s not overwhelming. It’s clean and tidy with a place for every need, but colorful and bursting with vintage accents.

So whenever I can finally have company, it’s ready to welcome friends and family into my home!
